Science has never been so easy - or so much fun! With The Everything Kids' Science Experiments Book, all you need to do is gather a few household items and you can recreate dozens of mind-blowing, kid-tested science experiments. High school science teach Tom Robinson shows you how to expand your scientific horizons - from biology to chemistry to physics to outer space.
You'll discover answers to questions like:

  • Is it possible to blow up a balloon without actually blowing into it?
  • What is inside coins?
  • Can a magnet ever be "turned off"?
  • Do toilets always flush in the same direction?
  • Can a swimming pool be cleaned with just the breath of one person?

Get ready to enter the laboratory and learn how to conduct cool experiments, understand scientific terms like "photosynthesis," and know fun facts like how many latex balloons per day can be made from a rubber tree. Each section has a great science fair project, complete with all the details you need to wow your teachers and friends.

You won't want to wait for a rainy day or your school's science fair to test these cool experiments for yourself!

Super Science Concoctions: 50 Mysterious Mixtures for Fabulous Fun

Kindergarten-Grade 6. Solutions, mixtures, emulsions, and gels are but a few of the concoctions presented here. Although many of the projects in this volume are familiar, it is the logical arrangement of the material that sets it apart. A brief, concise, and lively explanation of the scientific method and inexpensive ways to set up a kitchen laboratory precede the actual experiments. Each chapter builds on information previously presented. Activities can be conducted separately, but the sequential logic of the text make this title valuable for teaching basic chemistry principles. Pen-and-ink cartoon illustrations are well placed, informative, and humorous. Safety precautions are emphasized. Super Science is more informative than Alan Kramer's How to Make a Chemical Volcano (Watts, 1991) and livelier than Robert Gardner's Kitchen Chemistry (Silver Burdett, 1989). So whether it's gooblek, thixotropic art, or a density necklace, this book makes basic chemistry fun.?Kathryn Kosiorek, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Brooklyn, OH

The Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions: More Than 65 Wacky, Wild & Crazy Concoctions

Jewel and Gem Goop. Make-it-Yourself Stickers. Tornado in a Bottle. Funny Putty. Fruity Lip Gloss. Magic Muck. Snow Globe. Scratch & Sniff Watercolors. Believe it or not, it's possible--easy, in fact!--to make every one of these "wacky, wild, and crazy concoctions" (and 57 more) using common household ingredients. John E. Thomas and Danita Pagel have pulled together the cream of the crop of potions, clays, and all-around weird swills for the pleasure of children and scientists of all ages. Why not introduce the very youngest artist of the house to the world of art with Puddin' Paint? Is there a geologist in the house? Make an Instant Volcano--begins with a fizz, then erupts in a bubbling flow of lava. Time for a bath? Try Bathtub Finger Paints--bathers and the tub will get clean at the same time! These truly amazing concoctions are not mess-free, but they guarantee hours of absorbed, lively, creative fun, and inspiration for a lifetime of imaginative endeavors. Brief scientific explanations would have been a welcome addition, but maybe young readers will be motivated to explore the chemical, physical, and geological origins of these experiments on their own. Adult supervision is recommended for all projects. (Ages 5 and older) --Emilie Coulter

The Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions 2: More Than 65 Wacky, Wild & Crazy Concoctions

From the creators of the wildly popular book, The Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions comes a second inventive collection of wild potions and crazy crafts--all easily and inexpensively made from common household items. Kids should have a ball creating such wonders as an edible ocean (gummy fish suspended in Jell-O) or a greenhouse grown in a plastic bag. Among the 78 recipes are instructions for making such revolutionary new artistic mediums as whipped cream finger paint, dryer lint clay, and toothpaste putty. Quite a few of the concoctions are edible--chocolate bowls and fruity leather roll-ups sound particularly delicious--while others make great party activities or simple gifts. Almost all the concoctions make a perfect diversion for a bored child on a rainy afternoon. The simple, well-organized instructions make the book easy for kids ages 8 and up to use, though the authors call for adult supervision on all recipes. This is the kind of craft book that's bound to become a family favorite--in time, its large-format black and white pages should be covered with the residue of many hours of messy fun. The Ultimate Book of Holiday Kid Concoctions

I run a day home and with Christmas coming up it was wonderful to find so many ideas for the little ones to do. First, we made the Chocolate Kisses for them to give their parents for Chrismas.

A BIG one for the dads and a smaller one for the moms. :-) Actually, I already had some white chocolate at home, so I bought some bags of butterscotch chips and mixed them in and got caramel chocolate, so that's what the dads got and the moms got the real chocolate. We wrapped them in cellophane and put them in gift bags so they look really cute. I also put little strips of paper in the tops saying 'dad, you're the best' and 'we love you, mom.' Needless to say, one of my daughters saw them and wanted to know where hers is. by the way, she's married with children.

We have also made the applesauce/cinnamon ornaments this week, so at the moment they are drying and next week we will decorate them with glitter and so on. The kids had a ball kneeding the dough in the plastic bag. They sat in a circle and passed it around so everyone could have a squeeze. To tell the truth I was a little skeptical that it would turn into dough, but 'presto', it worked.

Tommorow I am going on a hunt for the red and white Christmas candy to make the candy wreaths. as crazy as it sounds, so far I have not been able to find it in Calgary, so I am hoping to find some of it somewhere so that we can make the wreaths next week.

Oh, and I nearly forgot, I also tried the Ice Cream, but that was for me. :-)
I have just ordered your 2 previous books and can't wait to get them.
Thanks again for the lovely ideas.
